The Studio~

The Studio...

"The Studio, a room to which the artist consigns himself for life, is naturally important, not only as a workplace, but as a source of inspiration. And it usually manages, one way or another, to turn up in his product" Grace Glueck quote

A Blank Canvas...Im STUCK~

"I'm stuck, a blank canvas glowing, staring back. I want to paint, but ..so many ideas, which one? This is the longest time for not painting. It hurts. In the past, Ive had the occasional period of the big bad blank canvas, but this is strange to have it last so long. Last Sunday at the gallery I spoke to several artists, and they all said, let it pass, no worries, change medium, go for a walk, look at other artists work, etc..all kind and helpful. But here I'm...staring at the computer. mmmm..... "

Some quotes:

You do not know how paralysing that staring of a blank canvas is; it says to the painter, You can't do anything ... Many painters are afraid of the blank canvas, but the blank canvas is afraid of the really passionate painter who is daring -- and who has. VINCENT VAN GOGH

"You can think of creativity as a conversation between what we're trying to figure out and the media we are using."

"Each of us can be compared to an artist's unfinished canvas, a work in progress, a potential masterpiece in the making. Yet no masterpiece, or person, is ever quite finished. There seems to always be another stroke of paint for the artist to add, if he really thinks about it long enough. Thus, it is up to each individual to spend some time each day adding or reversing paint strokes onto his or her personal canvas in order to improve on the total picture. Simply put, it's up to each of us how we view ourselves.. "
Author: Phylameana lila Desy

"An empty canvas is a living wonder, far lovelier than certain pictures." Wassily Kandinsky

CraigKausen "I no longer worry if a painting is about something or not.I am only cncrnd with the expectation, from a flat surface, of an illusion~" W.Scott

What is a giclee???? "ZHEE-CLAY

What is a giclee "zhee-clay"

Giclée (pronounced [ʒiːˈkleɪ] "zhee-clay" or /dʒiːˈkleɪ, from French IPA: [ʒiˈkle]), is an invented name (i.e. a neologism) for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray"[1]. It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne[2], a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints.

Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Annual Plein Air Festival – June 12–14, 2009

IDYLLWILD, CA, 6/8/09 – This month, artists in Idyllwild will take to the hills for the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Annual Plein Air Festival. Plein Air is French for “Open Air” and participating artists create their works of art out of doors, to capture the essence of the natural beauty that surrounds them. The charming town of Idyllwild, with it’s colorful foliage and stately mountains, is the perfect setting for Plein Air art. Each year, local residents and visitors stroll through the alpine village and watch the artists at work.

This year's Plein Air festivities begin Friday, June 12, with a lively panel discussion from 6 – 8 pm, at the Rainbow Inn (54420 South Circle Drive). On Saturday, June 13, artists will paint, draw and sculpt their creations at various locations around town. The artists will work from 8am until 2pm, which offers plenty of time to watch the works of art unfold. Be sure to pick up a map of the artists’ locations at the Village Centre gazebo.

The 3-day event culminates in a reception and art show held on Sunday, June 14. The event, sponsored by Guaranty Bank, will be held at the Rainbow Inn. This year’s judge is Cindy Triplett, a member of the San Diego Watercolor Society. Awards will be announced and the original works created during the festival will be offered for sale. The art show will be open from 9am until 1pm.

The 2009 Plein Air Festival is part of the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s “Second Saturdays” series, which presents an interesting art event on the second Saturday of each month from March through October. This year’s festival is sponsored by Dr. William Kern.

The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization with a mission to promote art and art education, support local artists and galleries and expand Idyllwild’s reputation as one of the top 100 art towns in America.

How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR)
The one with the shinny new tail.
How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR!)
I do hope that Harley's for sale.

I must take a trip to Flying Pigment Studio
And leave my poor sweetheart alone
If he has a Hog, he won't be so all alone
And the Harley will have a good home

How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR!)
The one with the shinny new tail
How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR!)
I do hope that Harley's for sale.

I read in the paper there are riders (roar! ROAR!)
With tail-lights that shine in the dark
My love needs a Harley to protect him
And scare them away with one quick park.

I don't want a Honda or Vespa
I don't want a bike with pearls
I don't want a little motor of blah
He can buy the bike for his girl.
