If you bike, pedal HARD and if you crash then crash well. Feel the SATISFACTION of a job well done-a paper well-written, a project thoroughly completed, a play well-performed. If you must wipe the snot from your 3-year old' s nose, don't be disgusted if the Kleenex didn't catch it all because soon he'll be wiping his own. If you've recently experienced loss, then GRIEVE. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, and was first sung on Eddie Cantor's radio show in November 1934. "Story of the Rescue" by Janice Toepfer, owner of the bike that I used to sketch & paint "Crow Spirit"

She said it was love at first sight. Well, she is a kind soul and looks past the obvious.

I was derelict and unable to get myself off the side of a barn in an apple orchard I had been living in for quite some time.

The woman I had been living with just couldn’t get me going and wanted a divorce. “I will find you a good woman who will love, inspire and care for you,” she reassured. I sat silent for months waiting for “that woman” to rescue me.

Early one cold January morning many years ago, a truck pulled onto the dirt road and backed up next to the barn. The cold keeps people in their beds longer in the winter, so in the quiet and solitude, she got out of her truck and started to hunt for me.

She looked weary from driving all night through snow, rain and hail. In jeans and a black leather jacket, she quietly searched the barn. The dog, Flea, gave her away. Flea is a nasty little thing always pissing on me. Alerted, the woman came out in her bathrobe and asked her inside.

I had been moved up beside the house, silent and shabby and waiting. She came up the walk and smiled and ran her hand across my back as she passed and went inside. The woman told the story of my demise and the divorce and all the other sordid details. She listened, then quietly laid out hundred dollar bills on a table and shook the woman’s hand. I had been rescued.

My life changed dramatically that morning. I now live in California away from the cold. She had the best in their field give me back my youth and vigor. I wear leathers made in England embedded with silver conches from New Mexico. People comment that I am positively dashing. I turn heads and stop traffic. Everyone wants to talk about me and I am now rather famous.

My portrait was painted at Flying Pigment Studios and can be seen on that web site. I have been in parades, worshipped in Laughlin Nevada, vacationed in Monterey and Yosemite and lovingly cared for since that cold January morning. I am now proud to represent my Milwaukee birthplace. At fifty-nine-years-old, life is somewhat bittersweet as she ages gracefully, yet I remain timeless. “You will always have a good woman who will love, inspire and care for you,” she reassures. I trust she will.

Idyllwild artists will put their top work on the line when the Art Alliance of Idyllwild hosts its 13th Annual Juried Members' Show. The artists are putting the finishing touches on their work, which covers a variety of mediums including oil painting, watercolor, acrylics, glass art, photography, ceramics, 3-D art and mixed media. With more than 75 AAI Member Artists participating, there is sure to be something for everyone's taste.

Come view the artwork from 11:00am until 4pm on Saturday, September 10, at the Open Exhibition, located in The Grey Squirrel Building (54300 N. Circle Dr.). Alliance member artists display and potentially sell their work in this annual open show of works from over 75 AAI member artists featuring People's Choice and Juried awards. Selection of Artists' and People's Choice Awards will be made at the reception. Points earned from these awards will move you one step closer to AAI's Artist of the Year. Our Members' Show is a wonderful opportunity to show your latest works of art. It is also a great time to sell some work. If you have some smaller pieces that you would like to sell we offer at this event a space for pieces to be sold for under $100. All work must be hand-delivered to the staging point (Caine Learning Center from 1 to 5 on May 12th or 13th) and picked up from the exhibit area at the end of the show on Sunday May 15 from 1 to 3 pm.

Member Galleries, please join AAI’s May 14th Treasure Hunt & Gallery Tour. All you have to do is provide refreshments (music is optional) from noon to 5 pm on Saturday, May 14th and by May 1st provide us your “clue” and “answer” for the treasure hunt. The clue should be something relating to a piece of art in your gallery. For example, “This artist painted a beautiful elephant”. Then when visitors come to your gallery with their treasure hunt map in hand, they will clearly see the artist name for the elephant painting and write it down on their map. Please confirm your participation and send your “clue/answer” combination to the AAI Email address by May 1st. artinidyllwild@gmail.com The Treasure Hunt/Gallery Tour is Saturday, May 14th from Noon - 5 pm. Art Education Opportunity! ICRC Speaker Series:

Gwen Robertson, Ph.D., a member of the faculty at the Museum of Contemporary Art in L.A., will be giving a presentation on "Greatest Hits of the 21st Century" as part of the Idyllwild Speakers Series, sponsored by the Idyllwild Community Recreation Council (ICRC) and AAI. Date is Wednesday, November 17th at the Creekstone Inn. Dick Goldberg is host for this event. There will be a wine and cheese reception, hosted by Art Alliance of Idyllwild at 5:30 pm. The presentation runs from 6-7 pm, The lecture is free to the community, but donations are encouraged, and will be given to the Art Alliance of Idyllwild.

Artist Volunteer Opportunity! Christmas Tree Decorating:

AAI artists: Would you like to help local Idyllwild children decorate lampshades to put on our tree in front of the fort? If you are interested in helping the children, please show up at the Town Hall ready to have creative fun. Time: 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM, Days: Monday through Friday, Dates: November 8 - 19 Tree lights and ornaments go up Jan 20th, Supplies: Please just bring yourself!! However, if you have the following....... hot glue gun and glue sticks, any old game pieces, lamp shades of various sizes, beads, yarn, or anything that you think would look great on a lampshade that will have to weather November, December and January. Be creative.

Artist Volunteer Opportunity! Harvest Basket for ROTARY CLUB:

The Rotary Club of Iydllwild is having our 44th Annual Harvest Festival, which is a fundraiser for our club. One of our "baskets" that visitors can buy tickets for is a Performing Arts and Artistic Development Basket. I am looking for artists who might be willing to donate a class for this basket. The artists who have already agreed to donate a class are going to arrange the time, place, etc with whoever wins the Artistic Development Basket. If anyone wants to donate a class, either I can make up a gift certificate for your approval, or you can make your own. All of the classes and the artists who are donating will be listed at the Harvest Festival. We think that in an artistic town such as Idyllwild, this should be a real hit. Artist Volunteer Opportunity! ARF Wreaths:

Idyllwild Artists, would you be be interested in decorating a wreath for ARF to benefit animal welfare? ARF will supply the wreaths. We are asking the artists of Idyllwild to each decorate a wreath in their own style and sign it. AAI will sell them through December to benefit ARF. The decorated wreath should be delivered to ARF on Saturday November 20th so they will be available for Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. AAI will sell them in their booth during the event. If you can't get your wreath to ARF by November 20th, simply bring them over as soon as you can, so that we can sell them at ARF, or raffle them off at the Post Office. What is a giclee "zhee-clay"

Giclée (pronounced [ʒiːˈkleɪ] "zhee-clay" or /dʒiːˈkleɪ, from French IPA: [ʒiˈkle]), is an invented name (i.e. a neologism) for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray"[1]. It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne[2], a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints.

2010 Art Walk and Wine Tasting

Presented by the Art Alliance of Idyllwild

Dear Art Lover,

Each October, art and wine lovers flock to the mountain town of Idyllwild for the Art Alliance of Idyllwild's 13th Annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting. It's a fun-filled day of exquisite art, special exhibits, festive music, delicious appetizers and outstanding California wines and it's all in the name of education.

The Art Walk and Wine Tasting is the AAI's largest event of the year and a fundraiser for art education in local schools. It is also the culmination of each year's Second Saturday's series, which features a noteworthy art event on the second Saturday of selected months from March through October.

This year's Art Walk and Wine Tasting takes place Saturday, October 9th from 2 -5pm. A commemorative, collector's wineglass is your ticket to sample the wares of more than a dozen wineries represented along the gallery route. Hart Winery, Stuart Winery, Mega Wines, Middle Ridge Winery, PMDL Distributer, South Coast Winery, Wiens Winery, Sunshine Mountain Winery, DenBeste Vineyards, La Serenissima Winery and Young's Market are among those who will introduce some new releases and bring along their old favorites.

Your $25 wineglass purchase helps promote art and art education in Idyllwild. Proceeds go to Idyllwild School's smARTS program and to the scholarship fund at the Idyllwild Arts Academy. Wineglasses can be reserved ahead of time through the Town Crier web site (www.towncrier.com) or purchases at Idyllwild Realty (North Circle Drive - across from the Rustic Theater) on the day of the event. Group rates are available.

Artists and galleries have prepared special exhibits for the event. At Quiet Creek 'Living Room' Gallery, award-winning landscape paintings, ceramics, and photography will command your attention while you enjoy eclectic tunes, courtesy of house DJ "Mikey."

At The Courtyard Galleries, lively sounds from the popular band "Change Required" will enhance the courtyard's ambience while Nel Ivancich's new exhibit, "Paper or Plastic," will provide a thought provoking focal point "Californian's use approximately 19 billion plastic bags annually," says Ivancich. "These bags eventually migrate to our landfills or the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a circular hodgepodge of litter in the North Pacific Ocean that is the size of Texas." Work by the gallery's seven permanent artists will also be on display.

A couple years ago, a friend showed me a tree, that ancient Idyllwildians named "The Witches Tree" It is located somewhere near Idyllwild in the San Jacinto mtns. It is amazing. Its been said that there's often been sightings of wicked wild dancing there silhouetted by the light of the moon. One night a year, be aware that on ole Hallowed Eve "the eve before All Hallows' Day," rumour has it that local Witches will gather that night, to dance creating energy for conjuring of spells. .

I ve been sworn to secrecy of its location, for fear of being turned into a toad or worse. . .

Update: Art Alliance of Idyllwild Art Studio Tour 2010

At first was a bit strange to have visitors in a place that has become quite the sanctuary for me since closing my gallery of 3yrs in 09, but when I had my first visitor who was a previous client, she set my fears at ease & the day turned out great.

This is Art Alliance of Idyllwild second Art Studio Tour...the first I had participated 6yrs ago & at the time I was using my living room as my studio. A table in the corner and easel. This is the first year I have had a space dedicated to just the art and for that I'm very grateful!

The weather was prefect, sunny around 80 all day. I had 30 visitors in, talked allot, showed sketches, originals and prints, even my neighbors stopped by which was really kewel! Locals Sandii, Gloria, Adam & Jena, Karen, Don & Mimi & sister Marla!! Really made some nice new contacts & new friends !!

IDYLLWILD, CA, 7/6/10– The combination of art and music is enough to engender a festive day. Add to it the crisp scent of pine and a leisurely stroll through the charming, mile-high town of Idyllwild and the result is sure to be unforgettable. That is the idea behind the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Incredible Audible Art and Studio Tour, which takes place this Saturday, July 10, from noon until 5pm.

The “Incredible Audible” is an annual event and part of the AAI’s “second Saturdays” series, in which a noteworthy art event takes place on the second Saturday of selected months between March and October. The Studio Tour offers an inside look at where the magic begins. Chat with Art Alliance artists, learn their techniques and find out where they find inspiration.

Browse the gallery route at your own pace, taking in the sights and sounds of one of the most popular art towns in America. Participating galleries will offer refreshments as well as an assortment of musical entertainment that runs from classical to folk.

Each gallery boasts a variety of original art that includes painting, sculpture, glass art, fabric, furniture, photography and more.

The Courtyard Gallery will feature jazz musician James Hagerty. As well as an accomplished keyboard artist, Hagerty is also the featured artist at the Courtyard Gallery for the event. Hagerty’s interesting surreal paintings and sculptures blend and compliment with his classic jazz interpretations.

Café Aroma will feature local musician David Jerome, whose classical guitar is sure to delight. Kathy Harmon-Luber is the gallery’s featured artist. Harmon-Luber is a fine art photographer whose work has been shown in galleries throughout the southwestern United States and Washington D.C.

Quiet Creek 'Living Room' Gallery, on Strawberry Creek, features internationally known, award-winning ceramic artist, Leslie Thompson. Her carved porcelain vessels are exhibited in major galleries throughout the country and her stunning jars and vases are heirloom quality, one-of-a kind pieces. This uniquely comfortable gallery will offer refreshments and great background music.

Artist of The Year 2001, Helen Molles and Artist of The Year 2005 and 2006 Elena Kern will be giving painting demonstrations on the deck at Four Corners Gallery, at the top of North Circle, next to the Fern Valley Emporium. The music at Four Corners will be provided by "Faultline," Kathleen Johnson and HoJo Reynolds.

Hear the incredible vibes by David Jerome’s acoustic guitar at The Village Centre; sponsored by Singerton Fine Arts and Everitt's Minerals and Gallery. This is a wonderful blend of music and art sponsored by the multi-talented artist Ron Singerton, and his wife Darla Singerton, who specializes in unique, detailed seed bead jewelry.

Everitt's Minerals and Gallery is featuring the work of twelve local artists and craftspeople: David Salk/ceramics, Kathleen Chaney/ceramics, Elizabeth Green/gourd artist, John Elsebusch /wood sculpture, Trudy Levy/ceramics, Lisa Lindahl /oceanlife bronze, Marcia Cox Holzman/multimedia, Brigeitte Lopez/gourd artist, Mac Lopez/Native American flute music, Ed Pyncomb/multimedia, Larry Everitt/lapidary-precious metal smith and Janet Everitt/lapidary-metal smith.

AAI Artists Darcy Gerdes, Carol Mills and others will open their studios for the tour.

Although she grew up in the shadows of Disneyland, Darcy Gerdes didn't have to "wish upon a star" to make her dreams come true. The self-taught artist has built a thriving career from her artistic passions... She began drawing & doodling at an early age and by 5, Darcy could be found selling caricatures of her neighbors for nickel each...

In the past, selected pieces of Darcy's multi-media works were available in prints, puzzles, cards, cross stitch & magnets, from such notable publishers as Figi Graphics, Leanin Tree Cards, Leisure Arts, Dimensions, Art in Motion and her own Flying Pigment Studio...

Armed with such a unlimited source of inspiration, Darcy says she "has no one favorite subject to paint...each idea, each concept seems to want a life of their own...each design stands on its own merits...I learn from each piece"...

Darcy now favors watercolors, acrylics and color pencil. "I've always felt the subject suggests the type of medium to use, which I think naturally changes my style slightly. The limitations or quality of the mediums chosen can also make a difference"...

Darcy's only formal training was in high school, where she took as many art classes as she could and studied under a "most excellent teacher", Mrs. Adele Mason. She did however pay particular attention to her neighbor, Ken Southworth, an incredibly ingenious animator...( In loving memory of Ken Southworth (1918-2007)

I In October 06, She opened her own gallery, Flying Pigment Studio Gallery located in midtown Idyllwild, CA. The gallery was also "member gallery" with Art Alliance of Idyllwild and actively particpanted all the events from March to October..

This October 09, the artist decided to close the gallery for various reasons & is now working out of her brand new Studio joining AAI as artist & studio member 2010.

The weekend of June 12-13 promises to be one of the liveliest of the year in the art town of Idyllwild as the Art Alliance of Idyllwild rolls two of its most popular events into one fun-filled weekend. The annual Plein Air Festival and the annual 3-Dimensional Art Show and Gallery Tour are sure to thrill visitors and locals alike.Plein Air is French for “Open Air” and, on Saturday, AAI artists will be scattered throughout the forest, capturing lovely and picturesque outdoor scenes on canvas. Enjoy appetizers and drinks as you stroll from gallery to gallery, watching the artists at work. The idea of Plein Air is to capture, with paint and canvas, a single moment in time. The result is a colorful “snapshot,” which will serve as a keepsake that will evoke fond memories for years to come.

The three-dimensional show presents art in 360°. AAI member galleries will open their doors to feature fine, original 3-D works that include ceramics, wood, clay, fiber, glass art, carved porcelain pottery, jewelry, furniture and mixed media. It all happens Saturday, June 12, from 12pm-5pm. Stop by any AAI member gallery to pick up your route map.

The culmination of both events takes place Sunday morning with a champagne reception, from 10am-noon, hosted by the Quiet Creek Inn (26345 Delano Drive). Come see the finished Plein Air creations and cast your choice for the Community Favorite Award. A juror will choose the First, Second and Third Place awards as well as Honorable Mentions.

She said it was love at first sight. Well, she is a kind soul and looks past the obvious.I was derelict and unable to get myself off the side of a barn in an apple orchard I had been living in for quite some time.The woman I had been living with just couldn’t get me going and wanted a divorce. “I will find you a good woman who will love, inspire and care for you,” she reassured. I sat silent for months waiting for “that woman” to rescue me.Early one cold January morning many years ago, a truck pulled onto the dirt road and backed up next to the barn. The cold keeps people in their beds longer in the winter, so in the quiet and solitude, she got out of her truck and started to hunt for me.

She looked weary from driving all night through snow, rain and hail. In jeans and a black leather jacket, she quietly searched the barn. The dog, Flea, gave her away. Flea is a nasty little thing always pissing on me. Alerted, the woman came out in her bathrobe and asked her inside. I had been moved up beside the house, silent and shabby and waiting. She came up the walk and smiled and ran her hand across my back as she passed and went inside. The woman told the story of my demise and the divorce and all the other sordid details. She listened, then quietly laid out hundred dollar bills on a table and shook the woman’s hand. I had been rescued.
My life changed dramatically that morning. I now live in California away from the cold. She had the best in their field give me back my youth and vigor. I wear leathers made in England embedded with silver conches from New Mexico. People comment that I am positively dashing. I turn heads and stop traffic. Everyone wants to talk about me and I am now rather famous.My portrait was painted at Flying Pigment Studios and can be seen on that web site. I have been in parades, worshipped in Laughlin Nevada, vacationed in Monterey and Yosemite and lovingly cared for since that cold January morning. I am now proud to represent my Milwaukee birthplace. At fifty-nine-years-old, life is somewhat bittersweet as she ages gracefully, yet I remain timeless. “You will always have a good woman who will love, inspire and care for you,” she reassures. I trust she will.

I've always enjoyed the cooler temperatures and beautiful environment of Idyllwild.

The creative juices that flow from artists and musicians practically run down the streets of North Circle Drive. It seems like there is an art gallery on every corner, much like gas stations in other cities. Walking through the town, you meet locals and tourists who share an interest in loving good art and listening to good music.

Each year, the Art Alliance of Idyllwild holds events to showcase local talent and offer people a chance to meet artists and learn about the specialties of different galleries.

On Saturday, the nonprofit organization will combine two of its most popular events into one weekend of activities. The Member Show and the Treasure Hunt and Gallery Tour will give visitors a chance to enjoy viewing -- and hopefully buying -- some original objets d'art.

Sponsored by Middle Ridge Winery, Oakwood Village will host the 12th annual member show. The Open Exhibition will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. As always, there will be an "under $100" section where people can pick up a work of art by an AAI artist for a bargain price.

An artists' reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and is a great opportunity to chat with local artists to learn about the history or inspiration for a particular piece.

"Quite a few galleries opened in the last year (mine included); more than in the recent past," wrote Mike Ahern of Quiet Creek Inn's Living Room Gallery in an e-mail. "Signs of 'new growth' are steadily appearing after a dreary year or more of economic woes."

Ahern said a new and revitalized AAI Board of Directors felt it would be good to streamline some events and combine AAI gallery member and artist member participation.

"Earth Rising" 12x36" acrylic, by Darcy Gerdes will be at the Member Show!

Another gallery on the map for the Treasure Hunt and Gallery Tour -- but not in the downtown area -- is Flying Pigment Studio.

"I named the studio long ago, because of a favorite quote a fellow artist told me: 'Art is a Pigment Of Your Imagination,' plus I've done a bit of skydiving and also fling the paint around," said artist Darcy Gerdes. "My studio features, wildlife, sci-fi, whimsical, religious, still life, landscapes art, and licensed work done for several different publishers."

Treasure maps to the AAI member galleries can be picked up at the Village Centre gazebo anytime after noon but must be returned before the 5 p.m. drawing to win prizes provided by local businesses, artists and organizations.

The Oakwood Village is at 54425 N. Circle Drive. Treasure maps are $3 each or two for $5.

The Eye of the Artist

IDYLLWILD, CA – 3/8/10 – What does “scale” mean to you? That’s what artists in Idyllwild must decide for this year’s “Eye of the Artist” event, presented by the Art Alliance of Idyllwild. For the March 13, event, each artist member will create a work of art based on his or her interpretation of “scale.” With mediums that include painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, glass, jewelry, furniture, basketry, metal and mixed media, the results are sure to be spectacular.

This year’s “Eye Opener,” which takes place at the Rainbow in on South Circle Drive, from 7-9pm, begins the AAI’s 13th season of promoting arts and arts education in the mountain town of Idyllwild while supporting local artists and galleries. Each of the AAI’s member artists is asked to create a piece of art based on the theme. About 50 interpretations of the theme “scale” are expected and guests will have a chance to take home one or more of these original works of art in an “opportunity drawing. For the cost of a $2 ticket, you can add to your art collection or start a new one. Local gallery owners also get into the act by donating exquisite works of art, which will go to the highest bidder in a live auction, hosted by Frank Ferro.

"This year's EYE event is going to be a great way to kick off the year up in Idyllwild,” said AAI artist Norm Deesing. “As an artist, I am always thrilled with the variety of beautiful pieces of art from other local artists. My family and I love this mountain showcase. Every year we walk away from this event with a fantastic art bargain and having a hell of a time."

The “Eye of the Artist” event is the AAI’s largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds help fund AAI events throughout the season. The event also kicks off the annual “Second Saturdays” season, which offers a unique art events from March through October. 2009 ARTIST DAY ---INTERNATIONAL ARTIST DAY

October 25th every year has been selected as International Artist Day.

This worldwide tribute to artists will honor and bring recognition to the contributions they have made to civilization. Everyone around the world can do something special on that day to enhance the visual arts: take an artist to lunch, host an exhibition, buy a piece of art, attend a gallery show, visit a studio of your favorite artist. Blog each other, let your local news papers and tv be aware.. Also try and have your city proclaim this wonderful day. If we don't help make this happen worldwide it will not perpetuate itself. Please get involved.

If you would like to help promote this important day please put our link on your web site. As artists we need to network together. Please let me know when you do this and we will link yours as well.

Here are some suggestions for events, on International Artist Day.

1.Have the Mayor of your city proclaim this day, October 25th, as International Artist Day every year. The mayor has the right to make proclamations. So a council vote is not needed.

2.For a visual exposure have your local media film an interview and do an article about the Artist(s) in your area.

3.Have businesses sponsor an Artist by purchasing a painting for their lobby, or hosting a show.

4.Treat your favorite Artist to lunch or dinner.

5.With so much up and coming new talent out there, why not help sponsor an emerging artist, through a weekend workshop or fundraiser.

6.Advertise International Artist Day by downloading our logo and using it to print posters or invitations for events.

7.As a gallery owner, host an Open House with as many of your represented Artists in attendance.

8.As an individual art lover, throw a house party featuring your Artist friend(s) and their artwork, of course!

9.Host an “Art Auction” in a restaurant with a guest speaker to talk about art appreciation, art history (briefly) and the importance art plays in our society. Charge per plate. This money can be used to help sponsor new talent in the schools.

10.Send International Artist Day greeting/post cards to all your supporters to show your appreciation and thank them for honoring Artists and supporting the arts.

11.If you have any type of website, add the International Artist Day link and feature a different artist of the month, every month with a short biography.

12.Most of us drive so why not have some magnetic decals or bumper stickers made to promote International Artist Day to display on your vehicle. This would help the awareness to develop.

Think its a brilliant idea~ good studio event, planning mine for Oct. 25, 2010!

With regret, I would like to let you all know, that I closed the gallery on the Wkend of Oct. 10, after the Art Walk and Wine Tasting. Its been a very tough year. I've really enjoyed the gallery & was wonderful experience, meeting the public, showing artists work and mine. The Gallery Opened on Art Walk 3 yrs ago & so closed on Art Walk 09. My very last hr of business I sold an original, "Power Vision" 10x20" acrylic. Who knew? LOL~

ALOT GREAT MEMORIES~ friends, family, clients, 4th of July parades, Halloween Parade, AAI events..and the very special talented artists: Kathleen Chaney, Dore Capitani, Sherry Chaney, Carol Rice, Jan Jaspers-Fayer, Marcia Cox, Robin Latimer. Local Musicians: Ron Boustead, Joey Latimer, Change Required & Sandii Castleberry. Most of the artists that were in the gallery have galleries that have taken them in. The studio will only feature artist Darcy Gerdes originals, prints & giclee's.

I'm not going far. Its an adjustment of location~ Ive a beautiful studio and NO rent~LOL~ No worries~ just a change and change is good. I am joining AAI as a studio and do most of their events. I also learned that Im an artist, not a merchant & that running a business took too much time away from painting.

It’s time for AAI’s 12th Annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting!

IDYLLWILD, CA, 10/2/09 – Mark your calendars for October 10, one of the most fun and festive days of the year in the mountain town of Idyllwild. From 2 – 5pm, art lovers and wine enthusiasts will come together for the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting.

This is the AAI’s 12th year of celebrating the art and wine event, which has evolved from a affair thought up by two local gallery owners to bring traffic to Idyllwild galleries, into an event that draws excellent wineries and visitors each year to the San Jacinto Mountains.

The event is sponsored by the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association. Representatives from as many as 20 of the association, as well as other local area wineries, will be on hand at AAI galleries to show off their wares. Taste their new releases and enjoy tried and true favorites. Middle Ridge Winery, Hart Winery, Stuart Cellars, Wilson Creek Winery, Shadow Mountain Vineyards, and St. James Spirits are some of the wineries participating.

A commemorative wine glass, which can be purchased through the Town Crier web site as wellas at the event, serves as your ticket. Stroll along the gallery route, or hop on the complimentary shuttle, and join the fun. Wine glasses sell for $25 each.

Proceeds from the Art Walk and Wine Tasting promote art and art education in local schools. The event helps fund the smARTS program at Idyllwild School and contributes to the scholarship fund at the Idyllwild Arts Academy.

Four Corners Gallery will display the work of esteemed painter Ying Liu. Liu, a native of China, has work in private homes across the United States and took first prize, in 2004, in the national juried exhibition of Art Methods and Materials, sponsored by American Artist Magazine.

Also featured is the work of artist and gallery owner Elena Kern. Kern is known for her exquisite landscape paintings and is a two-time winner of AAI’s Artist of the Year award. The Super 300 Blues Band will perform as well as vocalist and guitarist Gene Geno.

Florist in the Forest and Gallery is featuring award winning artist Shirloz, also known as Shirley Jordan. Jordan is a certified Terry Madden watercolor Instructor who works, primarily, in the medium of watercolors. She also paints in acrylics, pen and ink, colored pencils, chalks and oils. Jordan’s goal is to illustrate children's books. While at the gallery, enjoy brownies from Gary's Deli and live musical entertainment.

To honor the late artist Ed Bucher, creator of the Curious Critters, Florist in the Forest will be giving away one of Bucher’s creations in a free drawing. Bucher, who recently passed away, was a WWII veteran who moved to Idyllwild in 2004. His contributions to the Idyllwild art scene included wood working and metal welding.

At Flying Pigment Studio Gallery, AAI member artists, including artist/owner Darcy Gerdes, Kathleen Chaney, Dore Capitani, Carol Rice, Jan Jaspers-Fayer and Marcia Cox. The artists will show new work in acrylics, oil, photography, raku, bronze and art rocks. The eclectic mountain boutique gallery features an outdoor art garden and a work patio where you’re likely to find one of the artists at work.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Sandii Castleberry will lead a musical ensemble that will perform jazz standards and other songs reaching back as far as the 40s.

The sounds of the band "Dorojo,” comprised of musicians Don Reed, Robin Rabins and Joey Latimer, will be enjoyed at Courtyard Gallery, along with the work of Courtyard regulars Carol Mills, Judith Lepuschitz, Helen Atik, Terry Rothrock, Chinlee Chang, Debbie Crowell, Robin Rabins and Trish Tuley. Also on display will be the work of Courtyard’s guest artist Nel Ivancich, who currently has a solo show at the Phillips Gallery in Salt Lake City.

“Each of the paintings for my Courtyard Gallery exhibit is a response to the moment,” said Ivancich. “the relentless wind stirring things up in my garage where I paint, a passage from something I read the night before, the sound of birds having what seems to be serious dialog, or nothing more than the earlier layers of paint I’m about to add to.”

Quiet Creek "Living Room" Gallery, at Quiet Creek Inn, one of Idyllwild's newest galleries, hopes "walkers" will jog a bit further and go another mile below the village to view one of Idyllwild's largest collections of fine art paintings, vintage posters, photography, pottery, and glass art. On six acres along Strawberry Creek, the Living Room will offer a selection of wines to complement pleasant music, a peaceful setting and a wide selection of award-winning artists.

Art Alliance of Idyllwild's 11th Annual Juried Member Show

IDYLLWILD, CA, 9/8/09 – Artists in Idyllwild are putting the finishing touches and strokes on their submissions for the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s 11th Annual Juried Member Show. The three-day event takes place September 11 – 13, at the Rainbow Inn, located at 54420 South Circle Dr. The public is invited and there is no charge for the festivities.

The celebration begins Friday evening with an opening reception from 6-8pm. Come enjoy refreshments as you browse the fine works of original art submitted by the AAI’s 75 artist members. Their work includes painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, metal art, glass, photography, fiber arts and furniture.

Among those submitting their work is Idyllwild photographer John Simpson. Simpson presents his stirring monochromatic print, "Portrait of a Serengeti Lion." In this haunting image, the viewer experiences the unique perspectives of this magnificent animal, not only from a distinct eye-to-eye point of view, but from a deeply emotional one. All proceeds from the sale of this image will go to AIDS orphans of Lyasomboro School, Tanzania, Africa.

At the reception, juror awards will be presented for the best photography, abstract art, representational art and three-dimensional work. Artists and guests will decide the Artists’ Award and the People’s Choice Award.

The 2009 Juried Members Show is sponsored by Idyllwild’s Middle Ridge Winery and is part of the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s “Second Saturdays” series, which features an interesting art event on the second Saturday of each month from March through October. The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to promote local galleries and artists, while furthering art and art education in the charming mountain town.

Wild tiger numbers have dwindled in recent years to perilously low numbers - there are now less than 4,000 remaining. Already under threat from habitat and prey loss, wild tigers now face a serious threat to their existence from tiger farming.

Well the time has come to stop tiger farming in its tracks! Tiger farms are a big cat's worst nightmare: tigers are used to roaming large areas of land, but in farms they're confined in small cages...and they're "speed-bred" and even in-bred!...and the babies are torn from their mothers at three months - as opposed to three years in the wild - so the mothers can breed again and again.

And if that's not bad enough, tiger farming has become a serious threat to the survival of wild tigers as well.Here's why: Tigers were once hunted for their pelts, and for their bones which are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for treating arthritis and rheumatism. The result is that tiger populations were hunted down to dangerously low levels, so low that China banned the domestic trade in tiger bone in 1993.

So it seemed that wild tigers were safe from hunters...but not for long.In the late 1990's, wealthy businessmen began farming tigers and making tiger bone available for trade. Tiger farming stimulates the market demand for tiger parts. However, not every tiger trader has a farm - many of them illegally hunt wild tigers, and then sell their parts on a thriving black market.

The United States, historically a leader on global tiger conservation, has proposed a new international effort to end tiger farming that it hopes to present at the next CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) conference.

I need you to send a message to U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Salazar, strongly supporting his proposal to end tiger farming.

p.s. Tiger farming businessmen disguise their money-making ventures as "conservation breeding," but the truth is that tigers bred on these farms lack the vital skills needed to survive in the wild - so the farms have absolutely no value for conservation of the species.

Hi Ya'l, Yesterday at the gallery I spent bout an 45min with Hudson Leick who played Callisto in the Xena series. She and her hubby were up looking around the town, possibly to buy a house. Very sweet lady. Nothing like her some of her characters. First time a celebrity has come in at the gallery. Was a pleasure to meet her, dispute me getting all flabergausted..
