Santa Claus Is Coming To Town . . . Gonna find out Who's naughty OR nice

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town

He's making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who's naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town

He sees you when you're sleeping
He knows when you're awake
He knows if you've been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!

O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

"Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" (sometimes with Coming changed to Comin') is a Christmas song. It was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, and was first sung on Eddie Cantor's radio show in November 1934. It became an instant hit with orders for 100,000 copies of sheet music the next day and more than 400,000 copies sold by Christmas.

More Info:

"I love to collect and draw Santa's
When I was a kid, my Uncle Steve would call and pretend to be Santa.
My sisters and I absolutlely believed it was Santa and that he was checking his list to see if we'd been good. . ."

"Zhee-Clay" WHAT IS IT?

What is a giclee "zhee-clay"
Giclée (pronounced [ʒiːˈkleɪ] "zhee-clay" or /dʒiːˈkleɪ, from French IPA: [ʒiˈkle]), is an invented name (i.e. a neologism) for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray"[1]. It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne[2], a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints.

AAI Plein Air Festival & 3-D Show

http://towncrierbreakingnews.blogspot.com/2010/06/aais-plein-air-fest-and-3-d-show-june.html

The weekend of June 12-13 promises to be one of the liveliest of the year in the art town of Idyllwild as the Art Alliance of Idyllwild rolls two of its most popular events into one fun-filled weekend. The annual Plein Air Festival and the annual 3-Dimensional Art Show and Gallery Tour are sure to thrill visitors and locals alike.Plein Air is French for “Open Air” and, on Saturday, AAI artists will be scattered throughout the forest, capturing lovely and picturesque outdoor scenes on canvas. Enjoy appetizers and drinks as you stroll from gallery to gallery, watching the artists at work. The idea of Plein Air is to capture, with paint and canvas, a single moment in time. The result is a colorful “snapshot,” which will serve as a keepsake that will evoke fond memories for years to come.

The three-dimensional show presents art in 360°. AAI member galleries will open their doors to feature fine, original 3-D works that include ceramics, wood, clay, fiber, glass art, carved porcelain pottery, jewelry, furniture and mixed media. It all happens Saturday, June 12, from 12pm-5pm. Stop by any AAI member gallery to pick up your route map.

The culmination of both events takes place Sunday morning with a champagne reception, from 10am-noon, hosted by the Quiet Creek Inn (26345 Delano Drive). Come see the finished Plein Air creations and cast your choice for the Community Favorite Award. A juror will choose the First, Second and Third Place awards as well as Honorable Mentions.

It’s time for AAI’s 12th Annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting!

IDYLLWILD, CA, 10/2/09 – Mark your calendars for October 10, one of the most fun and festive days of the year in the mountain town of Idyllwild. From 2 – 5pm, art lovers and wine enthusiasts will come together for the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Annual Art Walk and Wine Tasting.

This is the AAI’s 12th year of celebrating the art and wine event, which has evolved from a affair thought up by two local gallery owners to bring traffic to Idyllwild galleries, into an event that draws excellent wineries and visitors each year to the San Jacinto Mountains.

The event is sponsored by the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association. Representatives from as many as 20 of the association, as well as other local area wineries, will be on hand at AAI galleries to show off their wares. Taste their new releases and enjoy tried and true favorites. Middle Ridge Winery, Hart Winery, Stuart Cellars, Wilson Creek Winery, Shadow Mountain Vineyards, and St. James Spirits are some of the wineries participating.

A commemorative wine glass, which can be purchased through the Town Crier web site as wellas at the event, serves as your ticket. Stroll along the gallery route, or hop on the complimentary shuttle, and join the fun. Wine glasses sell for $25 each.

Proceeds from the Art Walk and Wine Tasting promote art and art education in local schools. The event helps fund the smARTS program at Idyllwild School and contributes to the scholarship fund at the Idyllwild Arts Academy.

Four Corners Gallery will display the work of esteemed painter Ying Liu. Liu, a native of China, has work in private homes across the United States and took first prize, in 2004, in the national juried exhibition of Art Methods and Materials, sponsored by American Artist Magazine.

Also featured is the work of artist and gallery owner Elena Kern. Kern is known for her exquisite landscape paintings and is a two-time winner of AAI’s Artist of the Year award. The Super 300 Blues Band will perform as well as vocalist and guitarist Gene Geno.

Florist in the Forest and Gallery is featuring award winning artist Shirloz, also known as Shirley Jordan. Jordan is a certified Terry Madden watercolor Instructor who works, primarily, in the medium of watercolors. She also paints in acrylics, pen and ink, colored pencils, chalks and oils. Jordan’s goal is to illustrate children's books. While at the gallery, enjoy brownies from Gary's Deli and live musical entertainment.

To honor the late artist Ed Bucher, creator of the Curious Critters, Florist in the Forest will be giving away one of Bucher’s creations in a free drawing. Bucher, who recently passed away, was a WWII veteran who moved to Idyllwild in 2004. His contributions to the Idyllwild art scene included wood working and metal welding.

At Flying Pigment Studio Gallery, AAI member artists, including artist/owner Darcy Gerdes, Kathleen Chaney, Dore Capitani, Carol Rice, Jan Jaspers-Fayer and Marcia Cox. The artists will show new work in acrylics, oil, photography, raku, bronze and art rocks. The eclectic mountain boutique gallery features an outdoor art garden and a work patio where you’re likely to find one of the artists at work.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Sandii Castleberry will lead a musical ensemble that will perform jazz standards and other songs reaching back as far as the 40s.

The sounds of the band "Dorojo,” comprised of musicians Don Reed, Robin Rabins and Joey Latimer, will be enjoyed at Courtyard Gallery, along with the work of Courtyard regulars Carol Mills, Judith Lepuschitz, Helen Atik, Terry Rothrock, Chinlee Chang, Debbie Crowell, Robin Rabins and Trish Tuley. Also on display will be the work of Courtyard’s guest artist Nel Ivancich, who currently has a solo show at the Phillips Gallery in Salt Lake City.

“Each of the paintings for my Courtyard Gallery exhibit is a response to the moment,” said Ivancich. “the relentless wind stirring things up in my garage where I paint, a passage from something I read the night before, the sound of birds having what seems to be serious dialog, or nothing more than the earlier layers of paint I’m about to add to.”

Quiet Creek "Living Room" Gallery, at Quiet Creek Inn, one of Idyllwild's newest galleries, hopes "walkers" will jog a bit further and go another mile below the village to view one of Idyllwild's largest collections of fine art paintings, vintage posters, photography, pottery, and glass art. On six acres along Strawberry Creek, the Living Room will offer a selection of wines to complement pleasant music, a peaceful setting and a wide selection of award-winning artists.

The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is a 501()3 organization. For more information, visit the AAI web site at http://www.artinidyllwild.com/.

Art 360 by the Art Allaince of Idyllwild

Art in 360° by the Art Alliance of Idyllwild

IDYLLWILD, CA, 7/6/09 – Three-dimensional art uses space as an element, calling upon more of our senses to observe or interact. On Saturday, July 11, some of the most interesting, original presentations of 3-dimensional art can be seen at the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Annual 3-D Art Festival & Gallery Tour.

The San Jacinto Mountains provide a scenic backdrop for the tour, which meanders through the mile-high town of Idyllwild. Featured art will include clay, glass, fiber, furniture, jewelry, and mixed media. Maps of the gallery route are available at each of the Art Alliance’s 11 participating member galleries or on the AAI website (www.artinidyllwild.com).

The event, which takes place from noon until 5pm, is part of the Art Alliance’s “Second Saturdays” series. Each month, from March through October, the AAI presents a noteworthy art event on the second Saturday of the month. This year’s 3-D Art Festival & Gallery Tour is sponsored by the Rainbow Inn.

At Four Corners Fine Art Gallery, located at 54967 Pine Crest Drive, artist Trudy Adler presents one of a kind handcrafted jewelry in copper and silver. The texture and flame colored wide copper cuffs, earrings and pendants have a unique look of antiquity. The earrings are dangled with semi-precious stones. Texture is also present in the pendants created with molten sterling silver poured into the carved design of the cuttlefish bone.

Stop by Flying Pigment Studio Gallery, at 54235 N. Circle Dr., to enjoy the work of 3-D artists Marcia Cox, Dore Capitani and Kathleen Chaney.
Cox’s artwork holds the essence of Idyllwild, of raku' with romantic images and embellished natural finds within nature.
Capitani's work features strong metal designs, which illustrate his vision and complete mastery of the element.
Chaney, a resident artist creating her collectable one-of-a-kind hand painted rocks, is known as the "Rock Lady of Idyllwild."
Artist Darcy Gerdes also will be showing a painted bison skull, " Cosmic Ocean" her first in a 3-D showing.

Courtyard Gallery, located at 26120 Ridgeview Drive, is excited to present the watercolor and collage works of internationally acclaimed artist PAT WOOLLEY. Woolley, who spends part of the year in the south of France, is inspired by the architecture ,colors and flowers of that region. Her newest work brings the flavor of France to Idyllwild. Woolley is the gallery’s guest artist for July and August. Courtyard Gallery also continues to showcase the 3-D work of local artist and instructor Terry Rothrock and will unveil new work by the Courtyard Group of Seven: Carol Mills' ever evolving abstract expressionist canvasses, Debbie Crowell's new and exciting pottery, Trish Tuley's amazing nature photographs, Robin Mills' fusion glass pieces, Chin-Lee Chang's stunning platters and vessels, Helen Atik's mysterious monoprints and paintings, and Judith Lepuschitz's new copper plate on canvas series. The gallery also honors the memory of beloved late member Claire Hughes, who’s exquisite pottery is displayed in the Gallery.

Artisans Gallery, located in Oakwood Village on North Circle Drive, is all about wooden lamps for the 3-D Art Event. Stop by to see how various local artists add their unique touches to manzanita to create original and varied styles of lamps. The gallery also features lamp shades, made of pine, that are turned so thinly that they are translucent.

Dore’s Mountain Metals, on Hwy. 243 in Mountain Center, proudly features the works of sculptor Bill Anson. Anson’s metal and ceramic sculptures can be found in homes and businesses through the desert area.

Other Participating galleries include:

Everitt’s Minerals and Gallery
Singerton Fine Arts
Florist in the Forest and Gallery
Oh My Dog Gallery
Café Aroma Gallery
Two Babes in the Woods

The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to promote local artists and galleries and to expand Idyllwild’s reputation as one of the “100 Best Art Towns in America,” as recognized by art-critic-turned-author John Villani in his book by the same name.

Art with Theatre! Colony Theatre

Special Invite: Show up in Burbank
Colony Theatre
June 18-July 27 2008

THE VOICEOF THE PRAIRIEBy John Olive
Directed by David Rose

Before talk radio,
Before shock jocks,
Before Garrison Keillor,
There was country boy
Davey Quinn.

From the artistic shores of Laguna Beach to the art colony in Idyllwild, CA., Darcy Gerdes has enjoyed a professional art career for over 25 years. Recently, her wildlife & landscapes were discovered thru the artist’s website at flyingpigmentstudio.com by the Colony Theatre in beautiful downtown Burbank, CA by art gallery curator, Jude Walder. Her artwork has been selected as part of the gallery exhibition for “The Voice of the Prairie” a John Olive play production, scheduled to run from June18th to July 27th. In addition to her finished subjects, Darcy was inspired to paint nine new pieces of the Midwest prairie, featuring fields of grain against a blue sky filled with wispy clouds. “Nature always inspires me,” explained Darcy, “and I identified with the lead character, Davey Quinn.” He discovers storytelling as I have discovered art. Growing up in Anaheim, surrounded by strawberry fields, just as he grew up looking at acres of grain waving in the wind.

The play captures the beginning stages of radio storytelling in the heartland of America during the 1920s. Before talk radio, before shock jocks, before Garrison Keillor, there was country boy Davey Quinn. Davey’s special storytelling grabs the ear of an early radio hustler who puts him on the air – and a star is born. Quinn’s homespun yarns become a hit with the hearts of America, including one whose childhood memories are mysteriously stirred to life. An epic adventure of young love and redemption – with 3 actors playing more than 20 roles – that will enchant the entire family.

Darcy’s art career has included juried art, commissions and licensed art, but this is her first venture into theater gallery exbitions. Her paintings will be featured with a showing as theater subscribers enjoy cocktails, buffet, meet the artist and enjoy the pre-show debut. Come to the Colony Theater, and enjoy Darcy’s artistry inside the dramatic art of the play.

A SPECIAL NOTE FROM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR BARBARA BECKLEY

Welcome to our 34th Anniversary Season! Our first production of the season is John Olive's The Voice of the Prairie, a uniquely American story that is rooted in midwestern tradition and history, and I want to share with you why we are so excited to bring you this play. .

The Voice of the Prairie is set in the 1920s during the birth of radio, and within 10 years of the play, the radio had changed the world. This sounds like such a long time ago, but the reality is that we all know what it's like to have new technology impact our lives. With the creation and evolution of the internet -- which is still unregulated, just as the early days of radio were -- we are experiencing our own technological revolution that is changing our world on a daily basis.

But this play isn't just about technology; it's also about storytelling. The character David Quinn shares the captivating stories of his youth to an ever-growing radio audience, and as human beings, there's something in our DNA that compels us to respond to a well-told story. As it is written, The Voice of the Prairie cannot be presented as a television show or a movie. It is a uniquely theatrical event where 3 extremely talented actors play more than 20 roles, and this theatricality makes it especially exciting to produce and share. The Voice of the Prairie is unlike anything The Colony has ever done, and I hope you enjoy it.

Warm regards,
Barbara Beckley

Art Alliance of Idyllwild Showcases Art in 3-D

IDYLLWILD, CA, 5/27/08 – Three-dimensional art offers a refreshing and lively use of space. Unlike drawing, painting or even photography, 3-D art is tangible. There’s a front to it and a back. You can touch it and enjoy the feel of its nuances and textures. Galleries in the mountain town of Idyllwild are preparing to display some exquisite examples of 3-D art at the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s 3-D Art Festival and Gallery Tour.

The tour, which takes place Saturday, June 7, from 1-4 PM, is part of the Art Alliance’s “First Saturdays” series, which presents a noteworthy art event on the first Saturday of each month from March through October. AAI member galleries will open their doors with refreshments for guests to enjoy while they browse some of the most interesting collections of 3-D art. Pick up a map at the nearest AAI gallery to find your way. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the beautiful mountain village or hop on the complementary shuttle, which will carry you along the route.

Flying Pigment Studio proudly features several 3-D artists including Kathleen Chaney, Marica Cox Holzman, Dore Capitani and Jan Japers-Fayer.

Holzman began her fine art career after a long & successful phase as a commercial illustrator. She works in a variety of media, which includes oil, acrylic & watercolor painting, monotypes, ceramics & bronzed sculpture. Each reflects her love of nature.

"In my most recent work, I'm trying to convey the feelings I have about the natural wonders indigenous to Idyllwild,” said Holzman. “The San Jacinto mountain wilderness area represents to me all wilderness regions of our world that need to be respect & protected.”

Kathleen Chaney, an Idyllwild resident of 24 years, has been an artist most of her life. “I have had many endeavors and media’s and many shows, from map maker, brochures, drawing, paintings, soft sculpture, clay sculpture rock painter muralist jewelry, art teacher, cartoonist. You name it, I've experienced it.”

Dore Capitani lives life with the same energy that sizzles through his work. His sculptures, mainly constructed of various metals, blend sharp edges with fluid motion. Capitani's work has been shown in the prestigious Chicago Merchandise Mart and in numerous galleries in the Chicago area. His work can be seen in many galleries in Idyllwild, Niemi Sculpure Gallery in Wisconsin, and at his workshop/sculpture-garden in Mountain Center.

The Courtyard Gallery is also featuring work of Capitani as well as that of pottery artists Debbie Crowell and Claire Hughes. Crowell, who is also an outstanding photographer, is known for her intriguing pottery which reflects a sacred perspective of universal harmony with nature. Hughes, who died earlier this year, was a cherished member of the Courtyard Gallery for decades. The gallery continues to honor her memory by displaying some of her extraordinary creations known for their perfection of shape and colors that stayed true to her deep love of the earth.

Robin Mills, daughter of our Gallery owner Carol, will have some lovely fused glass items on display. Enjoy her unique glass jewelry or select one of her very intriguing plates for your home. The reflection and interaction of light in her pieces is a sight to behold.

Courtyard also presents new photographs by Tish Tuley, and new paintings by Carol Mills and Helen Atic." In addition, Judith Lepuschitz will display a new series of abstract paintings, some of which incorporate Braille letters as readable and touchable elements that convey the essence of each painting.

Fashioning three-dimensional art is a way of life for Janet and Larry Everitt, of Everitt’s Minerals and Gallery. The gallery specializes in handmade jewelry and designs made with exotic mineral specimens and rare fossils. The Everitts learned the ropes of “rock hounding” in the mountains of North Georgia, where they would hunt for treasures and take them to an expert to be made into jewelry. Later, they studied the art of jewelry making and, now, display and sell their own beautiful creations.

The Idyllwild Gallery of Fine Art presents Cheryl McNeill, an emerging glass artist, who is wonderfully bold and creative. After spending much of her life in the rough and tumble world of professional politics, McNeill needed an outlet for her creative expression. One day, she decided to learn to work with glass, a beautiful and elegant medium that has always intrigued her. By the end of that day, what had started as a hobby became her new and exciting career. McNeill bid goodbye to the world of politics and transformed her modest garage into a studio. Rabbit Canyon Designs was born. McNeill brings a genuine passion and meticulous devotion to each piece of art she creates.

There’s a new gallery on the block. Owners Ron and Darla Singerton present a delightful artistic journey through this new venue, which features a wide range of diversity in both style and medium. The Singergon Gallery provides exceptional original award-winning bronze and stone sculptures, oil paintings, mixed media, and handcrafted jewelry designed exclusively by the Singertons.

THE VOICE
OF THE PRAIRIE
by John Olive

Before talk radio, shock jocks,
& Garrison Keillor, there was
country boy Davey Quinn.

June 18 to July 27, 2008

Before talk radio, before shock jocks, before Garrison Keillor, there was country boy Davey Quinn. On the 1920s prairie, Davey's special storytelling grabs the ear of an early radio hustler who puts him on the air, and a star is born. Quinn's homespun yarns become a hit with the hearts of America, including one whose childhood memories are mysteriously stirred to life. An epic adventure of young love and redemption that will enchant the entire family.
