Art Alliance Of Idyllwild Artists Celebrates with 10 year Anniversary Show!

Art Alliance of Idyllwild Artists Celebrates with 10-year Anniversary Show!

IDYLLWILD, CA, 4/23/08 - If you're eager to start a new art collection, or add to an existing one, you won't want to miss the Art Alliance of Idyllwild's 10th Annual Members Show, a 3-day event that showcases the work of talented local and regional artists. The Courtyard Building, located at 26120 Ridgeview Drive, provides an intimate and interesting venue for the show and, whether your taste leans toward oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media, water colors, photography, ceramics or sculpture, you're sure to find a one-of-a-kind treasure that could be adored for generations.

The works of the 75 member artists will be on display from May 2 - 5. A highlight of the event is the Friday evening reception, on May 2, which runs from 7 – 9 PM. The exhibition will be open Saturday, May 3, through Monday, May 5, from noon until 5 PM. The festive event offers art lovers a chance to enjoy some delicious refreshments and mingle with the artists. The reception is open to the public at no charge. Cast your vote for the "People's Choice" award and see whom the artists award the "Artist's Choice" prize. Awards will be given to the first and second place winners.

The Members Show is part of the Art Alliance's "First Saturdays" series, which runs each year from March through October. The AAI presents a noteworthy art event on the first Saturday of each month, designed to promote art and art education while supporting local artists and galleries. Author and art critic John Villani dubbed Idyllwild one of the "100 Best Art Towns in America" in his book by the same name. Part of the Art Alliance's mission is to celebrate and expand that distinguished title.

This year's show promises some spectacular works of art. Idyllwild photographic artist John Simpson will present his serene yet powerfully moving image "Lovers on a Pier, Kauai."

Taken in November, 2007, this stunning panoramic view captures a dream-like moment amid the visually stunning light and atmosphere of a late afternoon on the Pacific. Shimmering, silvery seas and angelic sunlight beam down upon the silhouetted figures and illuminate the emotional drama unfolding in the distance.

Artist Kathleen Chaney is entering "The Mermaid," who sits about 15" x 12" and is made of and embellished by many interesting fabrics, natural shells, crystals and hand crafted accessories. Check out her intricately beaded fin! The Mermaid sits on her own blue rock, which is decorated with a regal shell back rest and shelves. Taking three months to complete, she is a true labor of love.

Kathy Harmon-Luber is a 5-year veteran of the AAI Member Shows. This year, she is showing her black and white photograph "Agave Dream." A former teacher at Loyola Marymount University, George Washington University, Smithsonian Institution, the Human Potential Foundation, and the Idyllwild Elementary School, Harmon-Luber has a deep love of nature and a knack for capturing life's fleeting moments with her lens.

Other works by AAI Member Artists include:

Doug Bernhagen will be submitting a pencil, ink, and gesso drawing on piece of luan panel. The title is, "See It, Touch It."

Daniel Fiddler's "LOVE ON THE ROCKS" is a mixed media piece of Paua shell and stone, 12x15,

Irene Corey's entry is an 18" x 18" oil painting called, "Ladies' Day."

Zane Ott presents, "Indian Blanket," an acrylic on canvas.

Back by popular demand is the "Under $100" section, where affordable, original works of art are offered for sale by talented AAI artist members. Each piece is priced under $100, which offers guests a great opportunity to pick up some fine, one-of-a-kind art for a bargain.

Sponsored by Lois and Dave Butterfield, the10th Annual Members Show is sure to be one of the most popular AAI events of the year. The Art Alliance is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to promoting art and art education. MUSICIAL REVIEW: Audible Art Tour 2008, Music & Art In the Air

Audible Art Tour 2008

As a gallery, the Flying Pigment Studio takes special pride in showing local artists and musicians. This year , the musical talent for Audible Tour featured folk, blues and bluegrass music . The musicians preformed outside on the street side deck at Flying Pigment Studio art gardens.

The gallery was busy with artists present, Kathleen Chaney, Marcia Cox & Darcy Gerdes. The event drew in over 100 visitors to the gallery, enjoying the fresh air, shady oaks and refreshments.

Our favorite banjoist Ron Daigh along with musical pals,
songstress Kathleen Johnson (vocals and autoharp) of 29-Palms & Harry Joe Reynolds (guitar, harmonica & bass) from San Diego County perform for Art Alliance's Audible Art Tour 2008

Kathleen's deep, strong and rich voice compliments HJ's gutsy blues vocals and harmonica, and Ron's multi-styled banjo rounds out this fun, eclectic group. HJ and Kathleen perform as the band: "The Folkin' A's" and have been performing together for over three years at festivals and special events throughout the Southland.

The Audible Art Tour in Idyllwild will appeal to all of its visitors' senses.
Galleries with the Art Alliance of Idyllwild welcome art lovers with a variety of musical acts and original art with drinks and snacks during the tour set from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Last year, the tour attracted 500 to 1,000 visitors, said Lon Mercer, president of the alliance.
"The Audible Art Tour is one of eight events the alliance puts together throughout the year," Mercer said in a telephone interview. "It's a great way to link and showcase the performing arts and the visual arts from Idyllwild."The Art Alliance of Idyllwild was formed 11 years ago to garner the forces of artists and galleries to better promote art from the region.

Amanda Taylor, owner of Artisans Gallery said members of the alliance are just a "tight group of pals."This year's tour will feature a variety of artists from potters to painters to photographers. Outside of the galleries, there will be music ranging from folk to rock.

At Artisans Gallery in Oakwood Village, a block up from the center of town, the works of photographer Mac McCowan will be on exhibit for the tour. McCowan shows his 'audible' side with a portrait of B.B. King. His photographs are CARBRO-printed, which gives the photographs a unique, grainy texture, Taylor said.

Next door at Baker Galleries, there will be woodturnings in many shapes and forms. Known for their wooden lamps and lamp shades, the gallery also carries pottery, paintings and jewelry.
Back by popular demand, Oakwood Village will feature recorder music by Lois Sheppard and Friends.

Located in the village center, the Idyllwild Gallery of Fine Art will feature jewelry from Lynn and Don Bodenberg. In their Reversibles Collection, each piece of jewelry has two sides. They create reversible jewelry with mother of pearl, coral, paua shell and gemstones.
Outside of the gallery there will be a performance by Emmy-nominated singer/songwriter Rie Sinclair and recording artist Bryan Head.

Cafe Aroma will contribute an array of culinary art and feature work by photographer Peter Irrgang. Cafe owner Frank Ferro said Irrgang donates all the money from his photos to medical missionary work in Peru.

Visitors can pick up a walking map at one of the 14 Art Alliance galleries, or hop on a free shuttle for a ride through the gallery route.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Idyllwild's Incredible Audible Art Tour - Art, Music and Fresh Mountain Air

IDYLLWILD, CA, 3/25/08 – Spring is in the mountain air and, soon, the spirited sounds of live music will welcome visitors to the Art Alliance of Idyllwild's 2008 Incredible Audible Art Tour. The tour is an annual event in which AAI galleries welcome art lovers with a variety of entertaining musical acts in addition to fine selections of original art

This year's Incredible Audible Art Tour is scheduled for April 5, from 2-5 PM. It's part of AAI's "First Saturdays" series, which features a significant art event on the first Saturday of each month from March through October.

Part of AAI's mission is to support local artists and galleries and to expand Idyllwild's reputation as an emerging art town. Idyllwild was chosen as one of the "100 Best Art Towns in America," by author John Villani in his book by the same name.

The Quiet Creek Inn (
www.quietcreekinn.com), a popular bed and breakfast establishment, is sponsoring the annual event, which is free to the public. Visitors may pick up a walking map at one of the 14 Art Alliance galleries or hop on the free shuttle for a ride through the gallery route.

At the Idyllwild Gallery of Fine Art, located in the Village Centre, finely crafted and unique jewelry is a state of mind. Lynn and Don Bodenberg, of Loveland, Ohio, are celebrating their 20th year of making fine jewelry as Da Vinci Silver. The couple works together as a team: Lynn, the designer, comes from a family of artists, weavers, sculptors, seamstresses, musicians, writers and painters. Don is the master silversmith.

In their "Reversibles Collection," each piece has two sides, so collectors can truly have two different looks in one. The Bodenbergs were the first to create reversible jewelry using mother of pearl, coral, paua shell and other gemstones. Da Vinci is known for its quality and innovative designs and bringing the best and most creative heirloom quality jewelry to galleries across the nation.

Also at Village Centre, the Willow Creek Gallery offers a new gallery shopping experience with its "Art and Gifts of the Wild." Stop by and see the thematic collections of affordable fine art. Whether your taste runs toward Wildlife, Western, Native American, Aquatic or Americana, you're sure to find something that will touch your emotions and inspire your inner adventurer. Enjoy the newest releases from Bev Doolittle, Charles Wysocki, Howard Terpning, Martin Greele, Ron DiCianni, Stephen Herrero and all of the Mill Creek Studios Artists.

While at Village Centre, be sure to check out Everitt's Minerals and Gallery, which features elegant jewelry by artist/owners Janet and Larry Everitt.

The "audible" entertainment in the Village Centre will be provided by DoRoJo, a dynamic acoustic trio made up of Don Reed, Robin Rabens and Joey Latimer. A familiar Idyllwild group, DoRoJo has a versatile repertoire popular with almost everyone. In addition to the group's eclectic original music, DoRoJo performs folk, country, pop, jazz, blues, jam-band, bluegrass and improvisational tunes.

When you drop by the Courtyard Gallery on Ridgeview Drive, opposite Oma's restaurant, you enter an alive, creative gathering place where you're likely to find an artist to chat with about his or her work. The tranquil, contemplative setting is home to the internationally celebrated artists known as the "Group of Seven." The group's photographers celebrate and honor the Earth in their works. Their potters use a large variety of unique glazing and firing techniques. Their painters work abstractly to explore all aspects of color, shape, form and thought.

The gallery will feature creations from artist Jim Turpin, a well-known painter from Palm Desert, whose heavily textured works reveal layer upon layer of color that appears and disappears into the unending voyage of the subconscious.

Musician John Bowman will take Courtyard visitors back to the era of "folk rock," as he strums and sings. As always, refreshments will be served.

Visitors at the Four Corners Fine Art Gallery, near the top of North Circle Drive, are in for a treat; a performance by celebrated Indie pop/rock musician Rie Sinclair is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Sinclair, a Emmy-nominated professional of 20 years, hails from the Hemet High School music program and has toured the world and recorded with groups that include The Plimsouls, Grammy Award winner Shelby Lynne, punk icon John Doe (of X), surf legend Dick Dale, Jill Sobule, Abandoned Pools and many others.

Artist and owner Elena Kern was AAI Artist of the Year in 2005 and 2006. Her art is strongly influenced by the work of early California plein air painter and family friend Granville Redmond and the gentle palette of watercolorist Percy Gray. Elena's love of her native California shines through in her oil landscapes.

See what local artists are up to at Artisans Gallery, in the Oakwood Village shops. Artisans Gallery features a wide variety of art including oil paintings, acrylics, watercolors, quilts, stone and wood sculptures and fused glass votives, all made by local artists. Among many new artists there is photographer Mac McCowan, who shows his "audible" side with a mesmerizing portrait of B.B. King. Cowan's subjects include slot canyons, London streets, the view from the St. Louis arch, and a woman in a field in Thailand.

McCowan uses CARBRO processing, one of the most beautiful printing processes in photography, noted for its outstanding separation of detail in the shadow areas of a print. His CARBRO murals are on permanent display at the Ellis Island Vision Center and he has photographs in permanent collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen as well as in private collections of His Royal Highness Prince Andrew, Edwin H. Land, Malcolm Forbes and President George W. Bush. He is also featured in this month's issue of Celebrity Society.

Next door, at Baker Galleries, don't miss the amazing woodturnings in many shapes and forms. Known for their exquisite wooden lamps and lampshades, Bakers Galleries also carries pottery, paintings, pine needle baskets, giclee prints, painted gourds, and jewelry. Be sure to check out George Baker's photographs. Most were taken locally.

Back by very popular demand, Oakwood Village is proud to have recorder music by Lois Sheppard and Friends, providing just the right tone and tempo for taking in the wonderful featured art.

At Café Aroma, enjoy the talents of local artists, musicians and writers while savoring an array of neo-traditional culinary art. Featured are photographer Peter Irrgang and musical guests Folk Ewe.

Also, be sure to visit:
Florist In The Forest & Gallery – Featuring the striking multi-media works of Donna Lori Parker.
Mountain Metals – Showcases the fascinating metal sculpture work by owner/artist Dore Capitani.
Parks Exhibition Center – Hosts an exciting variety of original works of art on the Idyllwild Arts Academy campus. Two Babes in the Woods – View the stunning new works from their Family of Artists. Mason Fine Art Gallery – Displays an impressive collection of California Plein Air Masters

IDYLLWILD, CA – 2/26/08 – The annual art scene is Idyllwild is poised to begin as the Art Alliance of Idyllwild prepares for the 2008 kickoff celebration. The “Eye of the Artist Art Show and Fundraiser” is the AAI's largest fundraiser of the year. The fun-filled evening offers a chance to visit with local artists, enjoy some fine refreshments and return home with a one-of-a-kind piece of original art.

The "Eye of the Artist" event is scheduled for March 8, from 7-9 PM, at the Rainbow Inn, located at 54420 South Circle Drive. As is tradition for the "Eye of the Artist", AAI galleries donate exquisite works of art, which will go to the highest bidder in a live auction hosted by MC Frank Ferro. The selections can include oil paintings, sculpture, metal, jewelry, 3-dimentional art, ceramics and basketry.

Artist members donate their own artistic creations to the "opportunity drawing," in which lucky participants can start or add to their art collections with a minimal investment. Hopeful art lovers purchase tickets to place in drawings for their favorite pieces of art. At evening's end, the winning tickets are selected.

“We’ve gotten a few pieces in already and they really look good," said event organizer Lon Mercer. “We have an original watercolor from Carol Mills, a fused glass hanging from Idyllwild Gallery of Fine Art, an earring and necklace set by Amanda Taylor and a Manzanita wine opener and bottle of wine from Steve Taylor," he added. "It should be really fun."

For each "Eye of the Artist" event, artist members base their creation on a specific theme. This year's theme is "emotions." In her donated watercolor, Idyllwild artist and gallery owner Carol Mills called upon the emotion of joy.

“It’s called ‘Pure Joy’ and it expresses the full joy that I feel, especially when I work with watercolor… the fluidity and the mystical transparency of paper when it merges with the watercolor. The basic shapes are archetypal shapes of what’s all around us all the time,” she added.

Tickets for the opportunity drawing are $2 for 1, $5 for three, $10 for 7 or $20 for 25. The more tickets you add, the greater your chance of winning but as Mercer points out, it only takes one.

“It allows the general public a chance to acquire a piece of amazing art for $2," he said. "That's inexpensive but the event provides a good deal of money to run the Art Alliance events for the rest of the year.”

The "Eye of the Artist" event is a major fundraiser for the Art Alliance, which is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to promote art and art education. The AAI is dedicated to supporting local artists and galleries and enhancing Idyllwild's reputation as one of the 100 Best Art Towns in America.

Proceeds from the show help support AAI artist events throughout the year. Those shows include the Member's Show, the Juried Member's Show and the Plein Air Festival. The event also kicks off AAI's "First Saturdays" series, which features a noteworthy art event on the first Saturday of each month from March through October.

For a suggested donation of $5 at the door, guests will enjoy a fun filled evening, have a chance to take home some original art and help the AAI support the arts and art education in Idyllwild.

Martini Madness: Art On Glass

WORK IN PROGRESS: MERMAID MARTINI

Ingredients:

4 Ounces Gin
1 Ounce Cherry Brandy
2 Lemon Wedges

Directions:

Combine ingredients except lemon in a shaker filled with ice. Strain into glasses, garnish with lemon wedges.

(<---still a work in progress, need to add lemons...using acrylics, hand wash only..eh?)

New Release:
Idyllwild Martini Madness: Art On a Glass

Idyllwild artists interpret love on hand-painted martini glasses. Creations will be auctioned online at 1013KATY Radio in Temecula as Vaentine's Day gifts.

When you want a little dignity and class, or you need to project bon vivant bona fides, ordering a martini cocktail is just the thing. James Bond drinks them. Carrie Bradshaw loves them. They are still hot in Hollywood with the ladies who do lunch. Some martinis even have movie star names like the Dean Martini ( vodka in a martini glass, an olive, a book of matches and a Lucky Strike cigarette ) or a Mary Martin ( Absolut Peppar vodka, tomato juice and spices ) Of course, for traditionalists, there is always the classic vodka or gin martini with vermouth and a slice of lemon peel.

In Idyllwild, we add a splash of art with a hand-painted martini glass. If we want class, let's go all the way. The Idyllwild Chamber is partnering with KATY Radio in Temecula to create "Martini Madness ." Idyllwld artists will hand-paint sets of martini glasses to express their interpretation of love. Join us in Idyllwild on Saturday, January 19th at Gastrognome Restaurant where the glasses will be displayed. A panel of judges will select the most original design as guests enjoy a Martini Happy Hour. Come try a Pomegrante Martini or a Chocatini at the Gastrognome bar. On Friday, Feb. 8th, online bidding begins at the KATY website for 48 hours, and the highest bidders win a set of martini glasses, the perfect gift for Valentine's.

How Much is that Harley in the Window? (roar! ROAR)

Merry Christmas...

Thought I'd share a little "diddy" this year for Christmas. Wrote it last year, to feature a giclee, release of "Crow Spirit" a canvas print. The tittle is: "How Much is that Harley in the Window" is sung to "How Much is the Doggie in the Window" hope you enjoy it~ Happy Holidays!

How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR)
The one with the shinny new tail
How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR!)
I do hope that Harley's for sale.

I must take a trip to Flying Pigment Studio
And leave my poor sweetheart alone
If he has a Hog, he won't be so all alone with his radio
And the Harley will have a good home

How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR!)
The one with the shinny new tail
How much is that Harley in the window? (roar! ROAR!)
I do hope that Harley's for sale.

I read in the paper there are riders (roar! ROAR!)
With tail-lights that shine in the dark
My love needs a Harley to protect him
And scare them away with one quick park.

I don't want a Honda or Vespa
I don't want a bike with pearls
I don't want a little motor of blah
He can buy the bike for his girl.

How much is that Harley in the window?
