Art 360 by the Art Allaince of Idyllwild

Art in 360° by the Art Alliance of Idyllwild

IDYLLWILD, CA, 7/6/09 – Three-dimensional art uses space as an element, calling upon more of our senses to observe or interact. On Saturday, July 11, some of the most interesting, original presentations of 3-dimensional art can be seen at the Art Alliance of Idyllwild’s Annual 3-D Art Festival & Gallery Tour.

The San Jacinto Mountains provide a scenic backdrop for the tour, which meanders through the mile-high town of Idyllwild. Featured art will include clay, glass, fiber, furniture, jewelry, and mixed media. Maps of the gallery route are available at each of the Art Alliance’s 11 participating member galleries or on the AAI website (www.artinidyllwild.com).

The event, which takes place from noon until 5pm, is part of the Art Alliance’s “Second Saturdays” series. Each month, from March through October, the AAI presents a noteworthy art event on the second Saturday of the month. This year’s 3-D Art Festival & Gallery Tour is sponsored by the Rainbow Inn.

At Four Corners Fine Art Gallery, located at 54967 Pine Crest Drive, artist Trudy Adler presents one of a kind handcrafted jewelry in copper and silver. The texture and flame colored wide copper cuffs, earrings and pendants have a unique look of antiquity. The earrings are dangled with semi-precious stones. Texture is also present in the pendants created with molten sterling silver poured into the carved design of the cuttlefish bone.

Stop by Flying Pigment Studio Gallery, at 54235 N. Circle Dr., to enjoy the work of 3-D artists Marcia Cox, Dore Capitani and Kathleen Chaney.
Cox’s artwork holds the essence of Idyllwild, of raku' with romantic images and embellished natural finds within nature.
Capitani's work features strong metal designs, which illustrate his vision and complete mastery of the element.
Chaney, a resident artist creating her collectable one-of-a-kind hand painted rocks, is known as the "Rock Lady of Idyllwild."
Artist Darcy Gerdes also will be showing a painted bison skull, " Cosmic Ocean" her first in a 3-D showing.

Courtyard Gallery, located at 26120 Ridgeview Drive, is excited to present the watercolor and collage works of internationally acclaimed artist PAT WOOLLEY. Woolley, who spends part of the year in the south of France, is inspired by the architecture ,colors and flowers of that region. Her newest work brings the flavor of France to Idyllwild. Woolley is the gallery’s guest artist for July and August. Courtyard Gallery also continues to showcase the 3-D work of local artist and instructor Terry Rothrock and will unveil new work by the Courtyard Group of Seven: Carol Mills' ever evolving abstract expressionist canvasses, Debbie Crowell's new and exciting pottery, Trish Tuley's amazing nature photographs, Robin Mills' fusion glass pieces, Chin-Lee Chang's stunning platters and vessels, Helen Atik's mysterious monoprints and paintings, and Judith Lepuschitz's new copper plate on canvas series. The gallery also honors the memory of beloved late member Claire Hughes, who’s exquisite pottery is displayed in the Gallery.

Artisans Gallery, located in Oakwood Village on North Circle Drive, is all about wooden lamps for the 3-D Art Event. Stop by to see how various local artists add their unique touches to manzanita to create original and varied styles of lamps. The gallery also features lamp shades, made of pine, that are turned so thinly that they are translucent.

Dore’s Mountain Metals, on Hwy. 243 in Mountain Center, proudly features the works of sculptor Bill Anson. Anson’s metal and ceramic sculptures can be found in homes and businesses through the desert area.

Other Participating galleries include:

Everitt’s Minerals and Gallery
Singerton Fine Arts
Florist in the Forest and Gallery
Oh My Dog Gallery
Café Aroma Gallery
Two Babes in the Woods

The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to promote local artists and galleries and to expand Idyllwild’s reputation as one of the “100 Best Art Towns in America,” as recognized by art-critic-turned-author John Villani in his book by the same name.
