Life is a Gift!

Life is a gift~

"Autum Respite" sketch, artist: Darcy Gerdes (c)2010
" Live. And Live Well. BREATHE. Breathe in and Breathe deeply. Be PRESENT. Do not be past. Do not be future. Be now. On a crystal clear, breezy 70 degree day, roll down the windows and FEEL the wind against your skin. Feel the warmth of the sun. If you run, then allow those first few breaths on a cool Autumn day to FREEZE your lungs and do not just be alarmed, be ALIVE. Get knee-deep in a novel and LOSE track of time. If you bike, pedal HARD and if you crash then crash well. Feel the SATISFACTION of a job well done-a paper well-written, a project thoroughly completed, a play well-performed. If you must wipe the snot from your 3-year old' s nose, don't be disgusted if the Kleenex didn't catch it all because soon he'll be wiping his own. If you've recently experienced loss, then GRIEVE. And Grieve well. At the table with friends and family, LAUGH. If you're eating and laughing at the same time, then might as well laugh until you puke. And if you eat, then SMELL. The aromas are not impediments to your day. Steak on the grill, coffee beans freshly ground, cookies in the oven. And TASTE. Taste every ounce of flavor. Taste every ounce of friendship. Taste every ounce of Life. Because-it-is-most-definitely-a-Gift."

Happy Thanksgiving! Darcy

Robert Genn's Ten Commandments of Art Pricing

Robert Genn's Ten Commandments of Art Pricing

Thou shalt start out cheap. ( I did . . .)

Thou shalt publish thy prices. ( They are . . .)

Thou shalt not lower thy prices. ( Won't . . .)

Thou shalt raise thy prices regularly and a little. ( I do . . .)

Thou shalt not have one price for Sam and another for Joe.
( Haven't done this . . .)

Thou shalt not price by talent or time taken, but by size. ( I do, $3.50 sq inch . .)

Thou shalt lay control on thy agents and dealers. ( I have . . .)

Thou shalt not easily discount thy prices. ( only if you buy more then one . . .)

Thou shalt deal with those who will honor thee. ( so far so good . . .)

Thou shalt end up expensive. ( getting very expensive . . .)

Artist Volunteer Opportunity! Harvest Basket for ROTARY CLUB:

The Rotary Club of Iydllwild is having our 44th Annual Harvest Festival, which is a fundraiser for our club. One of our "baskets" that visitors can buy tickets for is a Performing Arts and Artistic Development Basket. I am looking for artists who might be willing to donate a class for this basket. The artists who have already agreed to donate a class are going to arrange the time, place, etc with whoever wins the Artistic Development Basket. If anyone wants to donate a class, either I can make up a gift certificate for your approval, or you can make your own. All of the classes and the artists who are donating will be listed at the Harvest Festival. We think that in an artistic town such as Idyllwild, this should be a real hit. The artists can contact Dawn Miller directly, by e-mail or phone:

Artist Volunteer Opportunity! ARF Wreaths:

Idyllwild Artists, would you be be interested in decorating a wreath for ARF to benefit animal welfare? ARF will supply the wreaths. We are asking the artists of Idyllwild to each decorate a wreath in their own style and sign it. AAI will sell them through December to benefit ARF. The decorated wreath should be delivered to ARF on Saturday November 20th so they will be available for Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. AAI will sell them in their booth during the event. If you can't get your wreath to ARF by November 20th, simply bring them over as soon as you can, so that we can sell them at ARF, or raffle them off at the Post Office. The wreaths are 18" wide, & will come with juniper berries & pine cones already attached. For more information contact Maria Martino Lehman by emailing her at doorman9@verizon.net

We hope you will join us!

"Zhee-Clay" WHAT IS IT?

What is a giclee "zhee-clay"
Giclée (pronounced [ʒiːˈkleɪ] "zhee-clay" or /dʒiːˈkleɪ, from French IPA: [ʒiˈkle]), is an invented name (i.e. a neologism) for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray"[1]. It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne[2], a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints.
