UPDATE: The Eye of the Artist "Seasons"

Attention AAI Members and Guests -

Please note that the “First Saturdays” series is now the “Second Saturdays” series. The events will take place a week later than usual, beginning Saturday, March 14, from 7 - 9 pm.

IDYLLWILD, CA – 3/10/09 – The Art Alliance of Idyllwild kicks off it’s 12th season this weekend with the annual “Eye of the Artist” art showcase and fundraiser. Each artist member is asked to create a special piece of art based on his or her interpretation of a common theme. This year’s theme is “Seasons” and the result is sure to be an evening of spectacular art in a wide range of media: painting, sculpture, 3-Dimensional, ceramics, glass, photography, jewelry, metal, furniture, basketry and mixed media.

The Flying Pigment Studio Gallery has donated a framed & matted 5x7"print of "Crow Spirit" gallery price: $65.00 for live auction.

& "Eye the seasons for the planet",
a 4x5"original mixed media, acrylic, gallery wrap, gallery price: $125.00. Artist, Darcy Gerdes

Inspired by Henry David Thoreau "What's the use of a house if you don't have a tolerable planet to put it on"

As many as 50 artists are expected to participate in the event. An “opportunity drawing” will allow guests a chance to take home one of these exquisite works of art for the cost of a $2 ticket. In addition, AAI galleries donate fine works of art, which will go to the highest bidder in a spirited live auction

The town of Idyllwild ranks among the top 100 art towns in America and the Art Alliance is dedicated to promoting local artists and galleries as well as supporting art and art education. The Art Alliance of Idyllwild is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that contributes to the Idyllwild Arts Academy and to the SmArts Program at Idyllwild School. The “Eye of the Artist” event is the AAI’s largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds help fund AAI events throughout the season.

Artist, Kathleen Chaney donated piece: "Rock of Seasons" is a very large heavy rock from Kingman, Arizona. This rock has been sitting on my deck holding down a tarp protecting belongings from the seasons. I kept looking at it and knew it would be a great piece for the Eye Event. I could see that all 4 seasons would fit and blend around the rock. It took a full 2 weeks to complete. My highest hope is for it to raise a helpful amount of money for the artists.

The “Eye” opener also kicks off the AAI’s “Second Saturdays” series, which features a different art event on the second Saturday of each month, from March through October.
