Arts, Dimensions, Art in Motion and her own Flying Pigment Studio...Armed with such a unlimited source of inspiration, Darcy says she "has no one favorite subject to paint...each idea, each concept seems to want a life of their own...each design stands on its own merits...I learn from each piece"...Darcy now favors watercolors, acrylics and color pencil. "I've always felt the subject suggests the type of medium to use, which I think naturally changes my style slightly. The limitations or quality of the mediums chosen can also make a difference"...Darcy's only formal training was in high school, where she took as many art classes as she could and studied under a "most excellent teacher", Mrs. Adele Mason. She did however pay particular attention to her neighbor, Ken Southworth , an incredibly ingenious animator...Along with personal success she says her greatest rewards come from the way folks react to my art..."I love to see a perceptive knowing smile or chuckle! :}Darcy is very active in the local art scene of Idyllwild, CA. and does take special pride of showing her award winning works in the past as a juried artist at
Art A Fair, Laguna Beach, CA..In October 06, She opened her own gallery, Flying Pigment Studio Gallery located in midtown Idyllwild, CA. The gallery is also a "member gallery" with Art Alliance of Idyllwild and partakes in all the events from March to October...Endowed with innate talent and amazing eye for detail, a wonderfully humorous approach to every day events, Darcy shouldn't lose her appeal either...

Artz newzzzzzz!!
It is nearly Halloween. Darcy reminded me that we met on Halloween night many years ago at a wild party in Orange, California. We were so untamed then. Sexuality and drunkenness intensified as the night wore on. We were all in love with someone and our masks and costumes and the pagan night turned it to fire.

Academy.
Up the street, the Keifer Gallery and Cafe Aroma will host a wine tasting in Keifer Gallery courtyard. The gallery will feature wine still life paintings of Thomas Arvid along with Clifford Bailey and owners Kathleen and Jim Keifer. The Keifers will also host a trunk show of acclaimed Los Angeles jewelry artist Linda Kail. The fun continues into the evening with an art exhibit with the theme, "Wine, Women, and Song."
At Artisans Gallery, owner/artist Steve Taylor will display work that illustrates his love of wood, a trait Taylor says he inherited from his father who was a fine woodworker. Taylor crafts gnarled manzanita into items like corkscrews, bottle stoppers, candleholders, and clocks. He shows the unique qualities of the wood by slicing it open to reveal its deep red core.

Irene Corey artist statement
http://www.irenecorey.com/
Though my subjects are diverse, my style is identifiable in all my paintings. I respect order in design as well as in nature. My shapes are usually bold and the colors clean.
I admire the works of various other artists but can only be true to my own nature and never try to imitate. If I work from a photo it is one I took myself, my own inspiration, subject and composition. I consider copying from any other work plagiarism.
My landscapes are intended to draw the viewer into the scene and experience the elements with all the senses.
In painting people I hope to arouse a curiosity as to who they are, their thoughts and experiences.
Even my organic still lifes may reveal something of the nature of another species.
I enjoy painting in oil but regret that I do not have the space or equipment to play in more experimental media.

OUR CLUE:

Metal sculptor Dore Capitani is creating a metal sphere for the show. “I made molds that squeeze it into the radius and I assemble it in a heavy duty wok, which is actually a propane tank,” said Capitani. “They’re just a natural round shape, to me they look like big dandelion puff balls. They look cool in the yard because they have a natural look to them.”
Stuart Funk’s painting, “Monument,” is part of a series of male nudes. “I let the poses inspire surreal, dreamlike images that, like a dream, are cryptic, only partially understood and difficult to verbalize,” said Funk. “It was first painted in monochrome and the color was added in transparent glazes.”
Artist Daniel Fiddler is submitting “Dream Catcher Bowl,” a piece made of ceramic and turquoise. Fiddler is working on a series of ceramic bowls with a southwest, Native American feel. “I have always been fascinated by their belief in dreams and the dream-catcher,” said Fiddler. “I am incorporating dream catchers in some of the bowls that will be displayed as wall hangers.”
Photographer Paul Duval’s entry is titled, "Waning Moon & Lone Pine Peak,” a photograph taken shortly after dawn at Lone Pine Creek Campground.
Brenda Underwood’s watercolor “The Perfect Fishing Spot" was inspired by the sport. “Fishing is much more than casting and retrieving and playing in your catch,” Underwood said. “It's the wind on your face and the sound of waking birds as the sun peeks over the horizon. It's discovering the magic in new places and unlocking the mysteries that lurk there.”
Ying Liu will enter her 24” x 18” oil painting titled “Earl.” "I really like the glow created by the light on his face... which shows the dignity of the person," Liu said.
Terry Casella’s "Variations 2008" is made of 5 pieces of fused glass mounted on a framework of copper tubing. “I was intrigued by the wavy form for the base glass pieces so I created some patterns with the glass pieces fused onto them that complement the basic glass form,” Casella said. “The copper tubes were used to pick up some of the colors in the glass.”
Monique Marino’s entry is an oil painting called, “What A Day," a painting based on a photograph of modern dance legend Martha Graham. “As a whimsical artist I am always drawn to things which are quirky and unconventional,” said Marino. “I fell in love with the odd positioning of Martha's body, the beautiful flow of her dress and her pained, exasperated expression.
More than 8,000 screws were used to accent the features of Daniel Aronson’s "Screwed." The mixed medium piece is made of ponderosa pine, screws and bronze. It was “inspired to make art out of a new idea and create my sculptures with a new medium,” Aronson said.
“Cherished Moments," by Trudy Levy, is is made of low fire clay and glazes. “It’s an exploration in color, space and texture” said Levy. “The use of turquoise stones to decorate the piece adds a new dimension of texture and color.”
