Art Alliance of Idyllwild Artists Celebrates with 10-year Anniversary Show!

IDYLLWILD, CA, 4/23/08 - If you're eager to start a new art collection, or add to an existing one, you won't want to miss the Art Alliance of Idyllwild's 10th Annual Members Show, a 3-day event that showcases the work of talented local and regional artists. The Courtyard Building, located at 26120 Ridgeview Drive, provides an intimate and interesting venue for the show and, whether your taste leans toward oil and acrylic paintings, mixed media, water colors, photography, ceramics or sculpture, you're sure to find a one-of-a-kind treasure that could be adored for generations.

The works of the 75 member artists will be on display from May 2 - 5. A highlight of the event is the Friday evening reception, on May 2, which runs from 7 – 9 PM. The exhibition will be open Saturday, May 3, through Monday, May 5, from noon until 5 PM. The festive event offers art lovers a chance to enjoy some delicious refreshments and mingle with the artists. The reception is open to the public at no charge. Cast your vote for the "People's Choice" award and see whom the artists award the "Artist's Choice" prize. Awards will be given to the first and second place winners.

The Members Show is part of the Art Alliance's "First Saturdays" series, which runs each year from March through October. The AAI presents a noteworthy art event on the first Saturday of each month, designed to promote art and art education while supporting local artists and galleries. Author and art critic John Villani dubbed Idyllwild one of the "100 Best Art Towns in America" in his book by the same name. Part of the Art Alliance's mission is to celebrate and expand that distinguished title.

This year's show promises some spectacular works of art. Idyllwild photographic artist John Simpson will present his serene yet powerfully moving image "Lovers on a Pier, Kauai."

Taken in November, 2007, this stunning panoramic view captures a dream-like moment amid the visually stunning light and atmosphere of a late afternoon on the Pacific. Shimmering, silvery seas and angelic sunlight beam down upon the silhouetted figures and illuminate the emotional drama unfolding in the distance.

Artist Kathleen Chaney is entering "The Mermaid," who sits about 15" x 12" and is made of and embellished by many interesting fabrics, natural shells, crystals and hand crafted accessories. Check out her intricately beaded fin! The Mermaid sits on her own blue rock, which is decorated with a regal shell back rest and shelves. Taking three months to complete, she is a true labor of love.

Kathy Harmon-Luber is a 5-year veteran of the AAI Member Shows. This year, she is showing her black and white photograph "Agave Dream." A former teacher at Loyola Marymount University, George Washington University, Smithsonian Institution, the Human Potential Foundation, and the Idyllwild Elementary School, Harmon-Luber has a deep love of nature and a knack for capturing life's fleeting moments with her lens.

Other works by AAI Member Artists include:

Doug Bernhagen will be submitting a pencil, ink, and gesso drawing on piece of luan panel. The title is, "See It, Touch It."

Daniel Fiddler's "LOVE ON THE ROCKS" is a mixed media piece of Paua shell and stone, 12x15,

Irene Corey's entry is an 18" x 18" oil painting called, "Ladies' Day."

Zane Ott presents, "Indian Blanket," an acrylic on canvas.

Back by popular demand is the "Under $100" section, where affordable, original works of art are offered for sale by talented AAI artist members. Each piece is priced under $100, which offers guests a great opportunity to pick up some fine, one-of-a-kind art for a bargain.

Sponsored by Lois and Dave Butterfield, the10th Annual Members Show is sure to be one of the most popular AAI events of the year. The Art Alliance is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to promoting art and art education.
